Air Traffic Systems Simulator

Air Traffic Management System Simulator (ATMSSim), is a standalone software application that emulates the output of an entire Air Traffic Management System such as The Australian Advanced Air Traffic System (TAAATS).

A number of Flight Information Regions (FIRs), corresponding to 'zones' of air traffic management, are able to be specified and simulated in the same executable. The location and performance characteristics of Air Traffic Control radars can be specified. A number of target types (For example those typically found in the Australian FIRs) have been defined and default characteristics have been set for each. New target types, such as military targets can be added.

A set of high-fidelity tuning parameters has been developed to accurately model The Australian Advanced Air Traffic System (TAAATS). These parameters were developed by carefully analysing years of TAAATS air traffic data.

ATMSSim utilises a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) interface for receiving target entity update information (position, speed, heading and altitude).

Track data represents (with very high fidelity) the output of an Air Traffic Management System, and is currently output in both EUROCAT 2000-MIL format (i.e. emulating the current TAAATS interface to Project Vigilare) and Link-16 (TADIL-J) format. A range of other formats (for example OTHT-Gold and ADFORMS) are able to be supported as extensions if required. Track reporting rates for each track type (primary, secondary, reinforced, ADS and Flight Plan) are able to be configured via a link management interface.

ATMSSim runs under Windows or Unix and currently utilises a simulation management interface compliant with DSTO's Virtual Air Environment.
