OTHR Simulator

SMS Defence Solutions has developed a number of OTHR training simulators, aimed at training OTHR operators and Air Defence Operators at the Region Operations Centres (EASTROC and NORTHROC).

SMS Defence Solutions's OTHR Simulator provides a high-fidelity emulation of either a standalone OTHR or a network of linked OTHRs. The overall performance characteristics of the OTHR network are highly configurable and are able to be 'tuned' to emulate a range of current in-service or planned new systems.

Tasking is achieved through a single interactive Graphical User Interface (GUI), allowing a single operator to easily manage the simulated operation of a network of OTHRs. Targets are created and managed either locally (using built-in scenario editing and management functionality) or remotely via a DIS interface.

Performance is able to be realistically affected by altering environmental conditions, such as meteor showers, lightning, Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and a range of varying ionospheric propagation conditions.

OTHRSim Generates Realistic OTHR Tracks

Target entity data is received via an IEEE 1278 DIS-compliant interface. Entity data is able to be overlayed on a geographic display to aide in setting up radar tasking if required.

Tracks are realistically generated based on target, environmental and radar tasking characteristics. Track reports are generated in both Link-16 (TADIL-J) and OTHT-Gold formats. The Link-16 interface has been validated against both Air Defence Systems Integrator (ADSI®) by Ultra Electronics, and the Multi Source Correlator Tracker (MSCT®), by Raytheon Solipsys.

SMS Defence Solutions's Link-16 interface was used to provide the EASTROC with TAAATS data for two years. The current supported data link message library is extensible through a maintainable data dictionary.

OTHRSim is a PC-based application running under either Unix or Windows. The GUI components have been developed in Java.
