Mark joined SMS in 1999 and leads SMS’ Enterprise Architecture Practice providing strategic systems planning, IT alignment, business agility, systems flexibility, IT efficiency and IT governance & investment decision making. Mark has developed strategies underpinned by enterprise architecture practices that have led to infrastructure savings, improved interoperability between enterprise systems and changes to government legislation.
SMS Career Highlights
Analysis and blueprint design for the use of electronic signatures to support electronic prescribing and dispensing for the Department of Health and Ageing. The project provided an assessment of technical solutions and considered business process and legal issues along with a robust architecture to enable a transition to a paperless prescription environment. Other highlights include:
- Development of strategy, architecture and governance framework for Airservices Australia’s web capability. The project coordinated the effort of three business units to provide a consistent and effective regime for delivering the organisations core information activities via the web.
- Development of the enterprise resource planning strategy for Defence. The strategy provides the themes and initiatives (business/organisation, information and technology) to reform Defence’s business and enable transformation to a consistent mechanism for managing Defence’s business information.
Background
Mark has spent the last fifteen years in a variety of technical roles including system engineer, business analyst, developer, technical project manager, integration and test manager, and enterprise architect. Although a technologist at heart, he has seen the need for a more business-driven approach to IT investment and strives to take a considered and pragmatic approach to avoid ‘throwing technology at the problem’. Mark has a Masters of Engineering (Engineering Science) and Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
